Art meets New Technologies at the Clay and Glass Gallery

Today, when we hear of artists working with new technologies, we might imagine kinetic, interactive, or computer-activated works, but both the brush and throwing wheel were once considered new technologies. This exhibition explores object scanning, computer-generated form manipulation and 3-D printing, all of which embody Rapid Prototyping technology. While some artists switch back and forth between analogue and digital tools, others work exclusively in digital formats. Either way, these artists are experiencing a massive shift in the way they approach their studio practice both physically and conceptually. Coming from both Canada and the USA, the artists in this exhibition are at the forefront of creating new forms and inventing a new relationship to art and art-making.

Keynote Lecture @ AM Conference

The 7th International Conference on Additive Manufacturing (AM) will focus on research and application of additive manufacturing for the production of end-use components, including process, materials, design and software development together with supply chain and management issues. To maintain it's position as the leading global conference on additive manufacturing, the 2012 event will feature a strong lineup of invited academic and industrial speakers from around the world. The conference will be hosted by the world leading "Additive Manufacturing Research Group" at Loughborough University and is anticipated to attract an audience of over 200 international delegates. As in previous years, the conference will also play host to the ASTM F42 International Standards Group, which is working on the development of dedicated standards for the AM sector. The group meeting, which will take place after the close of the conference on Wednesday 11th July and continue throughout Thursday 12th July, is open to all conference delegates free of charge.

Imaginary Beings @ Centre Pompidou

Imaginary Beings: Mythologies of the Not Yet includes 18 new works for the human body
The works will debut May 3rd at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France, as part of the Multiversités Créatives exhibition. 


The collection was sponsored by Objet and created in close collaboration with W. 40 Under 40: Building Design + Construction

The 40 young AEC professionals featured here represent the Class of 2012 in Building Design+Construction’s“40 UNDER 40” competition. They were chosen from among 223 applicants to join the 240 previous recipients of this honor, dating to 2006. They range in age from 27 to 39 (as of December 31, 2011, the contest deadline), with a median age of 35. Seventeen of this year’s honorees are women, a high for the program.

They are diverse in their professional and personal interests, as well as in their service to professional societies and such charitable organizations as Habitat for Humanity, the ACE Mentor Program, Engineers without Borders, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. We are proud to present the AEC industry’s next generation of leadership.
